We are involved in many international activities, mainly in relation with CIE Division 1 work, as you may remember. We are working closely in this respect with the CIE National Committee, CNFE. For instance we are very active regarding the vocabulary of colour terms, participating to the work with Dr M. Pointer. We are in relation on this matter with other French speaking communities, mainly Dr Morren from Belgium. We are working also on this matter in relation with AFNOR, and we are preparing a document for the French vocabulary associated with colour, appearance and colour measurement. We are also participating in relation with the CIE-CNFE to the technical committees 1-27 about colour imaging, 1-33 about colour rendering, 1-34, about colour appearance, 1-38 about colorimetric data, 1-47 about colour differences, 1-48 about the revision of Publication 15 on Colorimetry. Incidentally some years ago we were translating in French this document CIE 15.2. Our translation is sold by the CIE National Committee with the official CIE document.
Thanks to these activities we have organised many meetings for our community about recent progresses and about new methods in colorimetry (Colour system with physiological implications april 1996, New colour systems RLAB et LLAB April 1997, Colour differences january 1998). We are able to give on these subjects very recent and valuable information.
We are playing also a role as a leader about the standardization in the field of colour with AFNOR. For instance, we have prepared an updated version of the standard NF X08-014 about the use of CIELUV and CIELAB and we have introduced the use of the new formula CIE 1994 for colour differences, with the concept of reference conditions. We are certainly among a very small number of countries having a standard on that point.
We are an endorsing society for Colour R & A and have published many studies in this journal. Recently we published a book review about “Michel Eugène Chevreul: un savant des couleurs”.We have been involved also in many meetings in France, for instance Couleur et Architecture (Caen, February 1996), Journées sur le peintre Jean-Baptiste Corot (Musée du Louvre, May 1996), Journées sur les drapeaux (National flags of Europe, Strasbourg 1996).
